singing a song

Sunday, May 6, 2007

This past Saturday, I sang in a 932 voice, 6th grader, All-County Chorus. We worked and worked for the concert, spending almost 12 hours singing our hearts out. We were all assigned a seat which meant most of the time, we didn't sit by a friend. The people in front of me and beside me all ignored me, so I felt really rebuked. After two hours of non-stop singing, I wished I wasn't there or that we could just stop. My conductor, Dr. Dean Enstminger, was always optimistic and helped us all get through the day. He taught us all many silent movements and small sounds that we did together that made us all laugh. One of those was directing us to all clamp our teeth at the same time. It was the funniest, clicky noise I have ever heard. He had complete control over the many kids, without being strict. By showing his control, after cutting us off for the fermata rest, he started talking to the audiance. Then after a minute or so. he signaled to us and we sang our last note. He even did the 'teeth thing' at the actual concert. He also directed the wave around the whole gymnasium we were in with all of the parents. This was a great expeirience for me to learn and grow.

Just a side note (hahaha) my songs for the concert were:

  1. Sing for Joy
  2. We Are the Young
  3. Swinging on a Star
  4. Douglas Mountain (arranged by our director)
  5. Happy to be Young
  6. Battle Hymn of the Republic
  7. A Musical Tapestry
  8. The Old Dominion
  9. Shake the Papaya Down (I accumpanied it with the congo along with the other people from my school)
  10. Shine of Me

I wish I could have been there to see you sing. I love your soccer action shot too. It's great!
